Botox® helps soften or erase facial lines and wrinkles, including vertical lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet, forehead furrows and lines at the borders of the lips. Full effects are visible within 2 weeks. If dryness occurs, it may last 4 to 12 months. Side effects are typically few, rare and mild. Some patients experience mild bruising at the injection site. Unwanted muscle weakness, eyelid weakness and allergic reactions are all rare potential complications.

Botox® dosages range from 50 – 200 units per syringe. While the number differs for everyone, there is an average dosage range for each area of the face. Remember that the more profound the wrinkles or the more robust the musculature, the more units you will need to relax the muscle(s).

While Botox® is generally associated with aesthetics, it is also used to treat certain conditions that affect the body's functions. Some conditions that can be successfully treated with Botox are lazy eye, migraines, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), and eye twitching.

Botox® Cosmetic is the brand name for a botulinum toxin called onobotulinumtoxinA (type A). When injected in small doses into specific facial muscles, the neurotoxin acts as a muscle relaxant, preventing the facial muscles from moving as much. When the muscles are relaxed, the appearance of certain facial wrinkles are minimized. 

This type of neurotoxin in Botox® is safe. Botox® is a purified toxin and contains no organisms, which means it cannot multiply and spread. The relaxed effect takes place where it is injected and where it is moved via massage.

A side note:  Botox is excellent for sweaty armpits, hands, and heads!
